SuperLawyers Katherine Denning, JD, MS, brings a unique blend of legal experience, psychological insight, and lived understanding to her work with families. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Willamette University and a Master’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Child and Adolescent Development from Capella University. After twelve years of practicing family law litigation, Katherine transitioned to serving families as a Parenting Time Coordinator and Custody Evaluator—a role where she combines her legal background, developmental knowledge, and compassionate approach.
For those unfamiliar with these services, a Parenting Time Coordinator helps parents implement and follow their parenting plans, resolve day-to-day disputes, and reduce conflict so children can thrive. A Custody Evaluator conducts impartial, in-depth assessments to offer the court informed recommendations regarding parenting time, decision-making, and the best interests of the child. Katherine approaches both roles with clarity, neutrality, and a deep respect for the families she serves.
Katherine’s commitment to supporting families is rooted in her own upbringing. Raised in a small community and in a family that experienced divorce and later blended family dynamics, she understands firsthand the challenges and resilience that come with change. She was also influenced by her grandfather, a University of Oregon graduate and dedicated lawyer whose integrity and community service helped shape her path. Go Ducks!
Outside her professional work, Katherine finds balance on her hobby farm, where she and her husband care for their dogs, chickens, sheep, and beehives. Time spent with animals and in nature offers grounding and perspective—qualities she believes make her a more present, thoughtful, and effective Parenting Coordinator and Custody Evaluator.
